Spirit Animal Teaching: Wild Boar/Pig

There are two parts to this video. In the first part, I will discuss the physical characteristics and behaviors of Boar and how this relates to messages from our Animal Spirit Guides. This information is relevant at any time you happen across this video.

In the second part of the video, I will be discussing the planetary energies influencing us in February 2022, the month I am publishing the video. Here is where I combine the teachings and advice the Spirit Animal of the month shares with us. This provides a practical example of how to work with the Spirit Animal energy combined with energies you may experience in life specifically during this time. This is also helpful if you are looking for an example of how to work with spirit animal energy in the mundane.

Here are the highlights we will be touching on with Boar as a Spirit Animal:
  • Beginning a period of financial growth and abundance
  • The project you have been waiting to act on is waiting for you
  • Stop procrastinating, the time to move forward is now
  • If Boar is your totem you are likely highly intelligent, instinctually cunning and resourceful, you may have a keen sense of smell
  • On the shadow side of things, boar energy is also associated with slovenliness, gluttony, and lust
  • Relationships are significantly highlighted throughout the month… stick around for the 2d half of the video to learn how Boar energy interacts with matters of the heart.
Boar as a Spirit Animal teaches us to face our fears and do what is necessary to find peace in grounded and practical ways. Therefore, if you find yourself in a place where you need to confront something or someone, boar is able to help you stand your ground in a way that seeks a peaceful resolution. In fact, boar energy also brings in the ability to make the best out of a situation even with limited resources.

Around the place of boundaries, Boar is a solid companion to call on for support if this is something you need help with. Trapped or cornered, Boar will let all know within earshot with a squeal that sounds like that of a jet engine churning. They can also be quite belligerent, aggressive, and stubbornly determined. If you ever get a chance to visit a recreational farm with pigs, watch their caretakers move around them. It’s quite distinct as they are cautious not to press the pigs unnecessarily. Even domesticated pot bellied pigs can go full-bore relatively unprovoked.

Working with the Boar as a Spirit Animal can help us care less about fitting in and being accepted and more about our physical well being and personal needs. Call on boar when you need a lift in confidence or to raise self-esteem. Just know there is an outsider vibe to this, so don’t expect to fit in. FWIW, it’s not so much about fitting in, as it is about being true to your authentic self. Our vibration starts to change as our beliefs and experiences do. Unless others share our path, or those involved each make significant efforts to meet halfway, the old is destined to wither away to make way for all of you to emerge.
The energy of being an outsider can either work for or against us when confronting ourselves or others. Here’s why – Boars are highly intelligent creatures. Studies have shown pigs are smarter than dogs and even 3 year old children. With this keen intelligence, they are also known to be instinctually cunning and manipulative. So, you can quite literally blind yourself from seeing what’s right in front of you. In fact, when working with Boar energy, any chance of going overboard can lead to a state of temporary blindness, just as an overweight Boar will lose vision as the rolls cover their eyes. This is called “fat blindness” which disrupts their ability to see or hear. We too must be conscience of becoming blind in the pursuit of earthly desires. In other words, we can easily fall down the slippery slope of hedonism with this energy. This pool is filled with desires both met and unfulfilled and is difficult to leave behind because the pleasure and the pain are counterbalanced. We are literally deaf and blind to our own demise when in this state. This looks like alcoholism and other forms of addiction, including overeating and binging. (image of Hooked by Pawel Kuczynski)

Boar has a keen sense of smell and spends a significant amount of time rooting around to forage for food. Boar is indiscriminate with food, so this is a wonderful time to experiment with new foods. You may find your sense of smell or taste heightened – a wonderful time for foodies to especially enjoy gourmet meals. Also worth mentioning, it is wise to be mindful of the calories you consume while Boar is in the midst. Our health is easy to forget as we pursue more physical pleasures. As intelligent as Boar is, they are also known to be gluttonous. So much so, a hungry sow will consume her own farrow.

If your relationship has stagnated, Boar may help to reinvigorate passions in the bedroom. Boar is an energy driven by the demands of lust and could help couples reinvigorate a stalled sexual relationship or become a bit more adventurous in an already satisfying one.

Ancient Myth & Symbolism of Boar

This is a good spot to jump into the Ancient myths and practices related to boar as the Greek Goddess of Love and Sensual Pleasures, Aphrodite, was offered boar in Temples where priests wore the skins of Boar during the ceremonies. In the myth, Aphrodite's favorite of all lovers, be they god or mortal, Adonis, was slain by a boar.
(Myth in detail: https://www.greekmythology.com/Myths/The_Myths/Adonis_and_Aphrodite/adonis_and_aphrodite.html)

Boar was also considered sacred to the God Ares, who was said to possess the ability to shapeshift into a boar. As one myth tells the story, Ares in boar form was behind Adonis’ death, jealous of Aphrodite’s preference for the mortal. Worth noting, prior to this Aphrodite asked Adonis to avoid hunting animals built with weapons. Perhaps the Goddess had an understanding of the future and hoped to preserve Adonis’ life and her subsequent loss. The two were said to enjoy each other equally.

Piglets were sacrificed to Demeter and Persephone to ensure fertile crops. Demeter herself was at times depicted as a sow. Wall paintings in temples dedicated to these goddesses show priestesses wearing sow masks.

In Crete, the Crone aspect of the goddess is a sow and a connection between the sow and the moon was also found in Malta.

Homer wrote that the teeth of boar were used to adorn the helmets of Greek warriors. Boar images were used to adorn the helmets of the Celts to call in the power of protection. To the Celts, boar was considered to be the food of the Gods, symbolizing war, the warrior, hunting, protection, and fertility. A black sow was considered evil to the Celts, symbolizing death, cold and great evil.

A white boar in China and Japan is said to represent the Moon, courage, conquest, and the qualities needed by a warrior.

The Norse Goddess, Freyja, also a goddess of love, war, and sensuality, rode upon a boar named Hildisvini (meaning, Battle Pig).

To the Egyptians, boar was an evil animal and belonged to the God of war and chaos, Set/h. It was believed to be an unclean animal and taboo for food; though, Egyptians ate it once a year at one of the 13 Full Moons.

The Welsh Goddess, Cerridwen was known as the White Sow. A symbol of divine inspiration, boar was connected to the moon, the Underworld, and Sacred Cauldron. (Animal Magick D.J. Conway)

The world over, we see the many qualities and attributes the Spirit Animal Boar lends to us when entering our life.

Practical Application of Boar With the Planetary Indications of February 2022

The Chinese New Year of the Black Water Tiger starts the month off with a forward focused energy that will help us take a leap of faith and establish a compassionate and sensitive approach to being self-driven. I want to emphasize this point, as many of you have been hustling for what feels like far too long without the space to enjoy taking a bath when you have made attempts at self care in the past. Perhaps you are wondering what self-care even looks or feels like. I have been asked that question by clients.

One last bit on Chinese Astrology, the Boar symbolizes wealth, felicity, honesty, and practicality. Rubies are the preferred gemstone and used to send away negative energy, while amplifying the energy of the wearer, they serve to strengthen our life force, and encouraging wealth. Rubies are said to have the ability to attract, seduce, and ensure everlasting love. Not a bad gemstone to give to your one true love this Valentine's Day. If a set stone is outside of your budget, a raw natural gemstone is a more affordable option.
Also, happening on the 1st is the New Moon in Aquarius, the Pagan holiday Imbolc, a celebration of Brigid – a triple goddess, meaning she also carries the holy trinity – Maiden, Mother, and Crone. Again, we see the significance of three appearing again in this energetic insight.

Now, these videos send me on little bunny trails as I ask myself questions to better understand the material I present here. And low and behold, Groundhog’s day celebrated on the 2nd has its origins in the Christian holiday, Candlemas. The holiday derived from Imbolc.

Each of these holidays speaks of a time of letting go and looking to the future with renewal and hope. With the new moon in Aquarius you may find this experience especially mental. Trust this is clearing out the old, stagnant energy to create space for new beginnings. When we hold onto things we either get weighed down, crushed, or otherwise stuck and stagnating. Held onto too long, this can manifest as physical ailments such as chronic fatigue, gout, and other illnesses related to stagnation, blocked arteries, or immobility.

Best use of this time is to root around at new ideas that press your limits and take a long view of the radical potentials that start with a beginning, middle, and end. Fresh ideas abound in the atmosphere with a buoyancy that really lifts mid-week. This energy builds to the end of the week and leaves us with a refreshing wave of energy related to self-care over the weekend.

Valuing independence, with the Spirit Animal Boar in the mix, confidence and belief in ourselves exudes, we are keenly intelligent and witty. Solving impossible problems now becomes not only a potential reality, but you are also starting to see how to create something from scratch and build it through to completion.

Whew, that’s a whole lot of information for the first week but what a time to explore the edges of our minds!

OK, February 7th - 13th, leaves us with another action packed and confident week. Get the chores done Thursday, Friday, as this is another dreamy weekend you may want to spend indoors snuggling.

The energy around the 14th and 15th feels all sorts of squirrely to me as it is helping us see gaps in relationships. This could lead to misunderstandings, upsets, and disagreements. Cupid’s Arrow arrives later than expected the week – and trust me – the energy looks to be absolutely delicious and worth the wait.

Talk with your Valentine about bumping your date night to Thursday or Friday to avoid the chaos at the beginning of the month so it doesn’t appear as though you forgot and are punting responsibility to a later date.

This actually looks like a great energy to do couple’s counseling in, IF both parties are really interested in working together through the discomfort of healing. Best use of the energy on the 14th and 15th is to explore the relationship we have with ourselves. Meaning how we care for our body, mind, and soul. How we nourish ourselves. Boar is omnivorous and indiscriminate in what it consumes – therefore, I encourage you to be discerning while looking into new information, materials, teachers, teachings, workshops, books… With open gaps, be conscientious of what you are filling them with. It is a good time take a tech break and listen to music that carries 528 Hz – the frequency of love. By filling in these gaps with self care and the frequency of love, we start with a nourished garden bed to plant our future desires in.

Wednesday’s Full Moon in Leo, shatters these darker vibes and significantly helps lighten the mood. Leo is the King of the zodiac, he’s a fiery passionate and sultry explosion of erotic masculine energy. With the rutting nature of boar – I truly hope you thank me for recommending a public date night later in the week and thoroughly enjoy exploring your wild and lusty nature and that of your partners. The 17th and 18th, bring an intimacy between lovers that is tender and sincere. You may have a woozy feeling pass over you on one or both of these days whether you are in a relationship or not. This floats us into another stress free weekend. Plan to spend some time journaling, dancing, singing, or whatever way you organically express joy over the weekend.

Do you see a theme so far this February?

We are learning how to work and live full-throttle during the week and how to nourish ourselves deeply on the weekends. Boar is helping us face any challenges with ease.
February 21st - 27th is a creative gateway you DO NOT WANT TO MISS. If you have been working on a heart project – this is an ideal week to dedicate time to the creative romantic vibes surrounding the planet. We have really been floating in the right hemisphere all month and it sort of climaxes this week.

May we all enjoy a balanced and more compassionate approach to our hustle in the coming year.

Surrender into knowing you are your own deepest love.
